Changing Habits of Littering Cigarette Butts

tl: dr

Cigarette butts, though small, persist in the environment for years, contributing significantly to pollution. This project seeks to break smokers' habits by through a gamified solution that targets and modifies the habit loops and making the cigarette disposal experience fun.

What did I do?
  • Conduct shadowing exercise on smoker’s behaviour

  • Identify habit loops

  • Conceptualise to break the habit and user test

Team

Along with 2 UX Researchers and 1 HCD Lead

Duration

1 year 6 months

Tools
People throw cigarette butts on the ground due to herd mentality and develop the habit due to convenience, without realizing that they are harming the environment.

what the shopkeeper said about prototype...

Designing for the large ecosystem

Designing for the large ecosystem

Bayer is large and complex so I had to make sure that any design suggestion should make sense in the flow of the larger ecosystem and be consistent with other applications.

Technology is the key

In most cases, the core technology was already predetermined, and I had to maximize its potential. There wasn’t much room to transition the system to entirely new technology.
