WARPLI
WARPLI
The Next Era of E-commerce From Scratch

tl:dr
With a belief in instant gratification and that customers shouldnโt have to wait days to get what they want, Warpli approached with an idea to revolutionise the e-commerce space. It aimed to deliver a broad category of non-essential items including fashion, electronics, beauty and home-merchandising items within a window of 30 minutes.
As a solo designer, my responsibility was not just limited to UX but for end to end product development.

What did I do?
Led the end-to-end design for a quick e-commerce product :
Conducted research through user interviews, stakeholder interviews and benchmarking exercises.
Mapped the customer journey (offline and online space) to draw insights for defined personas.
Brainstormed and ideated based on the gaps identified
Built wireframes for the website, mobile application and web app.
Worked on the final UI based on the established theme.
Conducted UX audit for multiple platforms and usability testing to assess the product.
Optimised the product based on the feedback from live users and user testing.
Created detailed documentation for developers to bridge the gap between UI and developed product.

OUR APPROACH

designing the agile way
The aim was to build minimum viable features in a quick span of time to receive funding
The product was meant to reach the users as soon as possible since this was the first version of the product. Hence, the agile methodology was defined to bring out the product quickly.
Each step of the process was very quick and at its best pace contributing to the development of the product.

research
Understanding the scope of quick delivery in the market by analyzing the determinant factors in online and offline shopping environments.

user research
The user interviews were divided into two: online and in-store shopping behaviour. Out of 9 interviews, I conducted 4 interviews with different types of shoppers. Through a synthesis, I was able to create customer journey maps (online and in-store) to identify pain points and design opportunities at different stages of the user journey.

There was a significant opportunity to incorporate elements of the offline shopping experience into the mobile app.
umm but what are others doing?

There werenโt any direct competitors in the e-commerce space delivering in 30 mins. The closest competitors were apps like Flyo and arrive delivering different categories of products in 30-60mins.

Quick delivery for non-essential categories was at a nascent stage. Same day delivery was prevalent only for the essential category of items.
ideation
During the brainstorming session, I along with my teammate came up with multiple ideas. But considering the MVP of the app, we narrowed down the following features:
Communicate the USP of 30 minutes delivery to the consumers.
Put customers in touch with the seller and bring focus to the local sellers.
Theme based curations or lookbooks by influencers/ fashion bloggers.
Redefine the presentation of products.

wireframing
As soon as we established the key features, we began drafting the user flows and information architecture of the app
Post the ideation stage, we funnelled down to the ideas we wanted to implement in version one and parked the rest for the future. As soon as we established the key features, we began to draft the user flows and information architecture of the application.

notable design exploration
The user testing revealed that Warpli seemed like any other e-commerce application and that the USP of 30 mins was not communicated enough.

Putting emphasis on '30 mins delivery' at different touchpoint - onboarding, homepage, product detail in the final solution
At Onboarding
A humorous take by comparing 30 mins delivery to daily activities and reinforcing how Warpli enables the quickest delivery.

At Homepage
As soon as the app opens up, the emphasis on '30 mins delivery' at different positions on the homepage.

At Product Detail Page
Positioning the value proposition in various locations reinforces it within the user's mental model.

my experience
Warpli was a very early stage project with just an idea and a logo. It was the first project in which I contributed to the entire design process from start to finish, from research to usability testing. I got the opportunity to stir conversations with designers, engineers, developers, managers from various teams and the founder himself. During the whole process, I realised what goes behind building a product from scratch, what are the roadblocks at various touchpoints and how to solve them with my team.

Not every time a designer gets an opportunity to design an end to end product with a large consumer base. I cherish this opportunity which helped me in improving myself as a user experience designer impacting people and business.

Prioritising tasks while building the first version of the app under business and technology constraints. While building the MVP, it was important to focus on the key user journey and not necessarily build the full-fledged app.

Each tool carries a unique benefit, and I believe a combination is conducive to efficient working. I started building information architecture on FigJam and soon realised its limitation and switched to Xmind to maximise efficiency.

It was a fast-paced project with daily deliverables, hence there was a need to strike the balance between speeding towards the deadline but also taking care of the important details.
The product revamp took care of needs of both new players as well as pro players on respective platform.
